Julius Caesar Ancestry

Julius Caesar was born to Gaius Caesar and Aurelia on July 13 in 100 B.C. Aurelia was the daughter of Lucius Aurelius Cotta while his father belonged to the patrician family of the Julii, whose lineage can be traced back to Goddess Venus and Romulus, the first Roman King. The roots of Julius Caesar ancestry are as old as the city itself. Caesar was the direct descendant of the Trojan Prince Aeneas, the son of Venus, and, therefore, claimed to be directly related to Gods.

Caesar’s father, Gaius Caesar, worked for military services, while his mother, Aurelian served as a strict Roman matron. Julius Caesar married thrice; first with Cornelia, daughter of Marius’ associate, second with Pompeia, a relative of Pompey, and third with Calpurnia. The only child of Julius and Cornelia was Julia, who later married Pompey. Cornelia died while giving birth to a child in 67 B.C. Caesar’s second marriage with Pompeia ended in a divorce due to a scandal that happened during the Bona Dea rites. He finally married Calpurnia, daughter of Piso, in 59 BC.

Julius Caesar had a son named Caesarion from his affair with Cleopatra. However, as his living son was illegitimate and not recognized officially, Octavian, his adopted nephew, became his immediate heir. Thus, Julius Caesar's ancestry was an impecunious line of the noble original clans with members who played significant roles in the political history of Rome. Although Caesars held political positions in the Senate, none of them managed to acquire the seat of the Consul before Julius Caesar. His father Gaius Caesar was the Praetor, while his uncle Lucius Julius Caesar was made the consul during the Social War of 90 BC - 87 BC.

Julius-Caesar-At-War      On January 7, 49 BC, Caesar was asked by the Senate to renounce his ten well-trained legions to the new governor. When he came to know about the demand of the Senate in Ravenna, he chose rebellion over prosecution and decided to fight back. On January 11 in the same year, his thirteenth legion moved forward to Rimini. More..
