Walt Disney Productions first made a name for itself as an authority in animation in the US, and then broadened its horizons and delved into live action film production, TV and tourism. The current name Walt Disney Company officially came into being in 1986, the time when the organization implemented major expansion plans, and new divisions were created for radio, theatre, publishing, and online media. Mature content too was not ignored, since the idea was to cater to a wider audience.
The company’s film studio, called Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group is today a major Hollywood name. The popular TV network ABC is owned by Disney, along with cable TV networks like ESPN, Disney Channel and ABC Family. The company also owns and licenses a total of 11 theme parks all across the globe.
Mickey Mouse, the world’s favorite mouse is a creation of Walt Disney. This lovable mouse is also the official mascot of the company. Donald Duck too belongs to the Disney family. Some recent Disney releases include Hannah Montana: The Movie (2009), High School Musical 3: Senior Year (2008), The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008), National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007), The Game Plan (2007), and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (2007).
