History of Spiderman

Spiderman is the popular superhero character created by Stan Lee. He first made his appearance in the year 1962, in Marvel Comics’ Amazing Fantasy #15. His popularity was instantaneous, so much so that the name Amazing Fantasy was changed to Amazing Spider-Man.

The tremendous success of Spiderman made Marvel Comics one of the key players in the comic-book publishing business, while creator Stan Lee earned the distinction of being the youngest comic book editor in 1963. By 1977, Spiderman had his very own newspaper strip, in over 500 newspapers worldwide! Of all the superhero comic strips that we have seen, the one that has had the longest run is that of the Spiderman. Till the late 1990s, Spiderman’s adventures used to be scripted by Stan Lee, and since the late 1980s, it was Larry Lieber, Lee’s younger brother, who drew the strips for newspapers, on behalf of Marvel Comics.
Spiderman’s real name is Peter Parker, who is a mild-mannered photographer. After being bitten by a spider that was radioactive, Parker develops superhuman qualities, which he then uses to fight crime.
The world got its first animated Spiderman TV series in the year 1967, on ABC. Spiderman has also had a successful stint at the movies, with three movies till date. The first Spiderman movie was released in 2002; it was directed by Sam Raimi and starred Toby Maguire in the title role. Till date, we have seen three successful sequels to the first movie. Spiderman has also made his appearance in nearly all media formats possible, including a video game by Nintendo in the year 2000.
