History of Tony Blair
| I can only go one way. I've not got a reverse gear.- This is the statement which symbolizes the determination of a lawyer who went on to become the prime minister of Britain. He was also the youngest one in the history of Britain. Blair has been the seed for the major global and political impacts in the last decade. |
Tony Blair was born on May 6, 1953. At birth he was christened Anthony Charles Lynton Blair. On May 2, 1997 became the prime minister of Britain, and stayed in office until June 27, 2007.
Tony Blair’s innovative transformation of the Labor Party into “New Labor Party” that focused more on shifting the party into the center stage of politics, won him the ticket to the Office. This former graduate of the Oxford University reshaped Britain’s political and economic image to a new spectrum. His decade long leadership can be accounted for a number of achievements like highest levels of literacy in schools, raising the national minimum wage to GBP5.52, and consistent low inflation rate and mortgage rate.
In his first term, he was fully engaged in reviving Britain from the hard stereotyped image set by Margaret Thatcher. His second term was overshadowed by yet another alliance with his counterpart, George W Bush, the then president of the United States. His major pitfall and the most criticized step in his carrier was the unexplained participation in the Iraq War. The startling fact of his reemergence for the third term was used by him to the fullest through the G8 Summit and strengthening the ties with other countries.
When he handed over the baton to Gordon Brown, he was termed as a man who was not carried away by his image and was not shunned about risking the same for his country. Tony is married to Cherie Blair and has 4 children.
