In the twentieth century only the Japanese pottery started becoming very popular. The Jomon period in Japan took the Nappo ceramic to higher levels by making more innovative and creative designs in pottery. In Japan the potter’s wheel appeared in the third and fourth century itself.
Kilns in Japan have thrived through the ages, and so has pottery. In the third and fourth centuries the Japanese started making all utensils through porcelain pottery. Then they started becoming more artistic and created artistic property for the emperors. They even developed different techniques to glaze the porcelain pottery and make it more lasting. Initially most of the Nappo ceramic pottery was in white and blue color only. However, as their glazing techniques improved they started using more of red and green also. That is why Nappo pottery can be difficult to study as you see too many variations in it. The influences of other cultures including Indian and Thai can be seen with various other countries simultaneously.
