Art History In Italy

Italy has been famous all over these years for two most important things such as Food and Art. You might be well aware of Italian cuisine but maybe we can shed some light on the History of Art too. When we talk about Italian Art we mean the visual art right since the age old ancient days to the present scenario.

Rome was the major reason for Italian art to flourish in the classical old times. Artists during the Medieval and Gothic periods expanded their skill right through the Renaissance tenure too. The themes and styles of this period were futurism, baroque, macchiaioli and rococo.

The major art museum is in the province of Florence. Italy got unified in the year 1861 and many traditions originated from this period onwards. The Roman Empire was built on the peninsula and was structured in such a way that bronze statues namely Etruscan paintings came into effect.

They were basically wall frescoes which had a plastic coating on top and were pasted on the plaster. They used colors that were made with minerals and mixed with stones .The animal skin or hair was used as soft brushes that could coat the paint easily. The Tomb of Lioness is a masterpiece as far as Etruscan frescoes are considered. Later, the Hellenistic styles were adopted during the Roman period.

If you ever visit the city in future and happen to visit the temples and villas you will surely notice the use of sculpture and mosaic. The city of Rome has nearly all forms of Arts ranging from portraits, sculptures, landscapes, paintings and very few walls and vase paintings are remaining.

Artists like Peiraikos painted vegetables, fruits, stalls, donkeys, barbershops and sometimes it turned out to be vulgar factors but was sold at enormous rates. The most famous artists during the fifth century were Apollodoros and Polygnotos. Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Donatella were and are still considered legends in the field of art. Michelangelo and Donatella both created sculptures of David followed by Leonardo painting the young lady Mona Lisa. Later works on impressionism, surrealism, expressionism and Cubism did take place. The modern art period is a mix of all forms possible right from renaissance to realism.

Brief-History-Of-Italy      There is more to Italy than just pastas and pizzas. Italy managed to enjoy its identity late in 1861 as a number of rulers ruled this city during the early ages. The first of all were Etruscans who preferred to rule over the peninsula region in the eight century. They managed to continue their power until the Roman Empire took control. More..
