History Of Art Of Ancient Greece

Greece art as well as architecture has a lasting effect because of its extreme simplicity and similarity to Western Civilization. The attitudes, expressions and themes had the Western culture imprinted on them. The depiction of nude man in all Greek paintings and sculptures indicate that man is the ruler and measure of everything that happens. The old age buildings, elements, motifs are still prevalent in the new age architecture today.

The Mycenaeans are the main reason for Greece doing so well in the fields of art and architecture.

The Dark Age was when the Mycenaean civilization took place. Soon after the Trojan War, these people underwent war and invasions through numerous colonies. As Greeks started settling in Ionia, pottery and painting soon began on a tremendous scale. The geometric period led to pottery designing and decoration. Then came the archaic period where vase painting, sculpture, and other ideas soon began to allure the Greeks. The paintings had a touch of elegance, technical and creative excellence and artistic approach. The very famous statues of Kouros and Kore were created at this period.

The classical period was when Alexander ruled Greece and it was only at this time that sculptors represented the human being and had a god like look and beauty. Greek paintings soon overtook sculptures. During the Hellenistic Period the art related to sculptures truly portrayed human emotions, every minute detail accompanied by complete beauty. The sculptures depicted hunger, anger, pain, stress, fear, and other extreme emotions and expressions beautifully. You will only believe when you see them. The other important information is that the first theater ever was constructed in this period.
