History Of Capital Punishment In Germany

Capital punishment has always been one of the worst kinds of punishment any nation can adopt. The early periods involved Beheading as well as hanging as the only two sorts of punishments since they were cheap and an easy method yet extremely painful. However, this was still considered less painful and hence, the Romans and Greeks looked out for other methods of punishment and came up with the idea of crucifying people.

Beheading was carried widely in Asia as well as Europe till the 20th century. Nations like Iran and Saudi Arabia still follow this practice. The practice was followed in Britain, Sweden, Norway, France, Germany and Denmark .These nation do not follow this practice presently.

China used it for quite some extent but the communists changed it to shooting. Beheading was done in two ways either by axe or sword. The victims were told to kneel without any kind of support and were just beheaded. The sword was 48 inches max weighed 4 lbs and needs the executioner to use both his hands to behead a person. Later, a block was introduced and the executioner had to place his head which gave him the much needed support and made the job of the executioner much easy. Again some nations used a low block while some used a high block, but it still had some problems .Most of the times the executioner did have to perform it more than once as he could not chop the victims head in the first attempt. King Charles I was beheaded for indulging in activities against the Britain Parliamentarians.

The executioner had managed to chop his head in the first attempt itself. There are ways in which the country adopts such a practice. Presently, Saudi Arabia uses it frequently in case you are caught if you get caught for murder, sodomy, rape, armed robbery and apostasy. In the year 2007, nearly 153 men as well as 3 women were beheaded. It is appalling to notice that the executioners take this job very sincerely and consider it as some great job. You might be thinking how can they feel proud of something like this, but this is true because only skilled headsman are recruited.
