History Of Central America
Central America was a part of the Mesoamerican civilization. There were several Native American tribes that occupied the area in the beginning. All the Native American societies put together are called the Mesoamericans. These people occupied Mexico, Costa Rica and also parts of Panama. |
Central America has been divided into seven regions today. The Spanish came to Panama in the 16th century and they tried to push out the Native Indians. For nearly two centuries the Spanish stayed here.
From the 16th century to the year 1821, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica were under the Spanish rule. It was in the 18th century, in the year 1811, that the people in El Salvador started reacting strongly against the Spanish rule. A war had started and Ferdinand even though restored was again threatened through revolts. However, in all these parts temporary independence was given but it was short lived.
In 1823, Mexico became a republic, and in 1823, Central America got together and declared their independence from Spain or Mexico and any other foreign nation. A government system was established and a Republican government was put in place. In 1823, Central America was formed, and it was meant to be a model country of the United States. It was fist named the United Provinces of Central America, but later the name was altered and it was called the Federal Republic of Central America. The Central American nations consist of Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica and Nicaragua and the Honduras. In 1907, a court of justice was created and a legal system was established.
