History Of Multicultural In Australia

Multiculturalism is a practice that allows everyone to accept the cultures of other regions and also respect their ethnic cultures. If a region ahs to be called a multicultural region, then different ethnic cultures have to coexist peacefully. In a multiculturalistic society, no particular religion is promoted or condemned. Every one has equal rights and there is a huge amount of diversity. All businesses and functions will recognize all ethnicities.

Australia has always had a multicultural environment even before the British occupation. Even today Australia ranks among the top 18 countries for multiculturalism because several immigrants go to the continent and become apart of it easily.

Before 1973 some conditions were laid by the government against immigration of certain nationals. It was called the White Australia Policy. However, after the Second World War much of this changed and multiculturalism was hugely promoted. Australia under the British rule only had the aborigines and the British. Nobody else moved to the continent. However, within the Aborigines there were more than 250 sects who were individualistic. Each of these sects had their own culture and tradition. They spoke different languages, wore different clothes and had different customs. However, after the European occupation many of the aborigines were killed and nearly 200 of these sects were lost.

Given the diversity in their language and culture, Australia had always been multicultural even when the aborigines were the main inhabitants. This particular aspect ahs lived for more than forty thousand years in this continent right from the early islanders.
