Kenya History  

Kenya is also known as cradle of mankind, and it is believed that Kenya was the place where the first of humans lived. The fossils which were taken out in the Great Rift Valley surrounding Lake Turkana give proof that ancient humans roamed around this place millions of years ago.

The present Kenyan tribes are divided into 3 groups, which are Nilotes, Bantus, cushites. The people who speak Cushitic language have migrated to Kenya from North Africa in 2000 B.C. they were livestock herders, farmers and hunterer-gatherers.

The Nilotic and the Bantu were the important tribes in Kenya. However, they started migrating to Kenya starting from 400A.D. The Bantus are originally from the Cameroon region and Nigeria. Modern History Of Kenya

The Kenyan history dates back to the evolution of human beings which was known to the scientists in the end of the 20th century. Kenya has been home for the migrant tribes form the 1st century A.D like the Bantu and Luo. The tribes got settled all around the country.

The Kalenjin established themselves in the west part of today’s Kenya. The kikuyu got settled in the Rift Valley and the highlands with the fertile ground. Each group had its own language, beliefs and customs.

At the time when the region experienced any natural disasters, different tribes competed for the fertile land and this increased the tensions. The Bantus particularly the kikuyu had strong control in the interiors of Kenya and surroundings of Mount Kenya because of their weapons and tools. The kikuyu did well and they set up an economy rich from agriculture and also the political and the economical infrastructure developed. In the 19th century the Masai’s who were good at fighting and hunting came face to face with the Bantus’ and this resulted in influencing the styles and the customs before disease and drought made their reign to come to an end.More...

History Of Education In Kenya

Higher education in Kenya has started late and developed slowly before the independence of Kenya. The colonial government had thought that the people when educated will enlighten themselves and they will fight for freedom.

Royal Technical College of East Africa is the first higher education institution in Kenya. It is located in Nairobi, and was established in the year 1956. Initially, the college was called the Royal College of Nairobi and then became the University College of Nairobi. In the year 1972, the teacher training institution called Kenyatta College became a part of the constituent colleges in the University College of Nairobi. Thereafter, the college was turned into a university in the year 1985. From then 5 new universities have come up.

The Kenyans were provided with the education facilities by the colonial government only in the fields like industrial education to exploit the resources which were available in Kenya. The skilled people were in short supply at the time after the independence in Kenya, and it became the responsibility of University of Nairobi to empower the citizens of Kenya.More...
