Bruce Springsteen History

Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen was born on September 23, 1949 and he is a famous American songwriter, singer and guitarist. Most of Bruce Springsteen’s songs are about men and women struggling to make ends meet.

However, gradually Springsteen has got identified with progressive politics and he known to support relief and rebuilding efforts in New Jersey and other parts of America. When September 11 happened, his feeling about the terrorist attacks was reflected through his album The Rising.

Bruce Springsteen has earned popularity for expressing ordinary and everyday problems through his songs and this has earned him 15 Grammy Awards and an Academy Award. His most famous albums are Born to Run and Born in the USA.

Springsteen was born in New Jersey. His father, Douglas Frederick Springsteen, was a bus driver of Dutch and Irish ancestry, while his mother, Adele Ann Zirilli, was of Italian descent. He has an older sister, Virginia, and a younger sister, Pamela. His younger sister had a brief career in films before leaving it to pursue still photography on a full time basis.

Springsteen was raised a Roman Catholic and he attended a parochial school in Freehold Borough where he was always getting into trouble with the nuns and other students. It is quite strange but Springsteen’s later music reflected his Catholic philosophy and the music included many rock-influenced Irish-Catholic hymns.

Springsteen decided to take up music at the age of 7 after he saw Elvis Presley perform on The Ed Sullivan Show. He bought his first guitar at the age 13 for a paltry $18. When Springsteen was 16 years old, his mother took out a loan to buy him a $60 Kent guitar, and this was memorialized in Springsteen’s song The Wish.
