Mary Travers: Leukemia survivor Mary Travers was born in 1936. An American singer, Mary was the member of the folk music trio Peter, Paul and Mary. She was diagnosed with leukemia in 2004. She had chemotherapy treatment before making a complete recovery.
Marie Curie: Marie Curie was one of the most celebrated scientists of her time, at a time when the field was almost exclusively for men. Marie Curie was most famous for her discovery of the elements polonium and radium. In 1898, Marie Curie along with her husband Pierre Curie discovered polonium and radium, and in 1903 they shared the Nobel Prize for physics with Henry Becquerel. It is thought her long exposure to radioactive materials led to leukemia and subsequent death.
Ed Bradley: Ed Bradley was a broadcast journalist for CBS news and one of the co-hosts of TV’s weekly news magazine “60 Minutes”. During a career spanning twenty-five years, his news exposes and interviews with celebrities earned him numerous journalism and television awards, including 19 Emmys. He died at the age of 65 years due to operation on his spleen. He was suffering from leukemia.
Bill Walsh: William Ernest “Bill” Walsh, the famous head football coach of the San Francisco 49ers and Stanford University, died of leukemia at the age of 75. He was named NFL’s Coach of the Year in 1981 and 1984.
