Geographically, Manitoba “Keystone” province is located in the heart of Canada and North of North Dakota. Its capital city is Winnipeg. Many famous people past and present have come from Winnipeg and other places in Manitoba.

Susan Aglukark: She is an Inuk musician whose blend of Inuit folk music traditions with country and pop songwriting has made her a major recording star in Manitoba, Canada.

Tommy Douglas: Tommy Douglas better known as father of medicine in Canada was born in Scotland and raised in Winnipeg. He gained a reputation by the age of 19 as a Baptist minister in Austin, and earned a bachelor degree at Brandon College.

Dough Henning: Dough Henning born in Winnipeg has been considered as one of the greatest magician of modern times. He died of cancer at the age of 52, on February 7, 2000.

Deanna Durbin: Deanna Durbin (Real name Edna Mae Durbin) was born on          December 14, 1921, Winnipeg. By the age of 14 she was most highly paid female star in the world.

Scientist Margaret Newton: Margaret Newton was best known for her research in stem rust a fungus which destroys wheat crop.

Terry Sawchuk: Terry Sawchuk was born in Winnipeg and is considered by many as one of the greatest Goalie in the history of league Hockey.

Nellie McClung: Due to the efforts of Nellie McClung and other members of “Famous Five”, Women won the right to vote in Manitoba in 1916 the first province in Canada to do so.

Fred Penner: Fred Penner family entertainment recipient of the order of Canada, the highest recognition bestowed on Canadian citizen. The University of Winnipeg bestowed an honorary doctor of laws degree upon him for his contribution towards the education of children.
