The name “Utah” implies “people of the mountains”. Salt Lake City is the capital of Utah. On January 4, 1896, the state joined the Union and today, it is one of the western states of the United States of America. Here are some famous people from Utah:

Famous People from Utah:

Wallace Stegner: An American novelist, environmentalist and a historian, Stegner was often referred to as “The Dean of Western Writers”. Although born in Iowa in 1900, Wallace spent most of his life in Montana Utah. He wrote some of the best fiction and non-fiction work including Angel of Repose, Second Opening of the West and Beyond the Hundredth Meridian: John Wesley Powel. Angel of Repose won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1972. He also wrote “Wolf Willow”, a biography about his childhood life.

John Willard Marriot: Son of a farmer, John Marriott was born and brought up at Marriott Settlement in Utah in the year 1900. At a very young age, he was given huge responsibility of farming. He grew up to become one of the most successful businessmen. From a small beer parlor in Washington D.C. (1927) to the Marriott Corporation, one of the leading chains of hotels and catering companies, J.W. Marriot had certainly touched the sky. Currently, there are more than 1000 restaurants, 143 hotels and resorts worldwide. He died in 1985, a successful businessman and a billionaire.

John Moses Browning: He was the key designer and developer of semi-automatic and automatic guns. He is also credited for developing various types of cartridges, gun mechanisms and firearms. On October 7, 1879, Browning was granted the first patent for his one of his weapon design. In all, he has one hundred and twenty-eight gun patents.
