Davy Crockett Timeline

The famous American frontiersman, hunter,, scout, soldier and folk hero Davy Crockett was born on 17 August 1786 in Tennessee to John and Rebecca Crockett. He was one of the nine children that the couple had. However, due to poverty, Crockett did not go to school, but still managed to teach himself how to read, write and do basic math.

At the age of 20, he got married to Mary Finley, and had 2 sons, John Wesley and William Finley. The couple got married in the year 1806.

After marriage, the couple resorted to frontier farming and during this time, Crockett became a skilled hunter and trapper. In fact, he was famous for his coon skin hat, which he used to wear constantly even when fighting the Native Americans and Mexicans.
In the year 1813, Davy Crockett joined the military and he had the distinction of serving under the future president of the US, Andrew Jackson. He also fought the Native Indian tribe of Creek Indians for a year, from 1813 until 1814.

In the year 1815, Crockett’s wife died. And, Davy remarried a widow named Elizabeth Patton, who had 2 small children. And, Crockett’s commanding officer, Andrew Jackson, went on to become the president of the United States a few years later, in 1829.
Davy Crockett decided to run for Tennessee state legislature in the year 1821, and was successful. He was elected once again in 1823. Thereafter, he decided to run for the US Congress from Tennessee. He lost his first election, but was successful in the second one, in the year 1827. He won again in 1833. However, he lost the elections in 1835, and with this he bid adieu to his political career.

In the year 1834, Davy Crockett published a book entitled A Narrative of the Life of David Crockett, of the State of Tennessee. This was an autobiography and went on to become extremely popular.

In the year 1835, Crockett moved his family to Texas. However, this move to the newly independent land was short-lived. Crockett and nearly two hundred other volunteers ended up losing their lives on 6th March 1836 while defending the mission of Alamo in San Antonio in Texas. The Mexican army laid a 13-day siege on the mission with thousands of soldiers. The Americans could not stop the marauding Mexican soldiers under the leadership of General Santa Anna, and soon they were all slaughtered. One of the brave soldiers to be killed was Davy Crockett.

After the famous Battle of Alamo, Davy Crockett became a legend as many stories about him were published. Some of these stories were real, while others were fictional, but they ended up making him into a folk hero.
