Matt Hasselbeck Biography

An American football quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks, Matt Hasselbeck was known for his brilliant play and arrogance. He was born on September 25, 1975 in Boulder, Colorado. After completing his high school from the Xaverian Brothers in Westwood, Massachusetts, he attended Boston College. His professional career as a footballer began in 1999 with the Packers where he backed up Brett Favre.

On March 2, 2001, Matt Hasselbeck joined the Sea Hawks and became the franchise's all-time highest passer in 2003. Hasselbeck has 2,205 attempts and 1,342 completions for 15, 924 yards with 57 interceptions and 96 touchdowns.

Hasselbeck was known as an arrogant player. There are reports of Hasselbeck calling the Boston College Head Coach Dan Henning a “clown” when he decided that Hasselbeck could not be the starting quarterback. In the 2003 wildcard playoff game against the Green Bay Packers, there was evidence of his arrogance. After winning the coin toss, he proclaimed "We want the ball and we are gonna score."

Hasselbeck’s statistics were quite impressive during their victory against Washington Redskins on January 14, 2006. He carried the team to a 20-10 victory and finished with 16/26 passing for 215 yards and one touchdown.

Hasselbeck’s performance has been widely recognized to be amongst the best in the NFL in 2005. He has been credited as being the highest passer in the NFC and led the Seattle Sea Hawks to the playoffs for the third consecutive year. He also led the Sea Hawks to their first conference championships on January 22, 2006 after his team scored a 34-14 victory over the Carolina Panthers.
