Joe Biden Biography

Joe Biden, a senator from Delaware, was the running mate of Barack Obama for the presidential election campaign. He, presently, is the vice-president elect of the United States of America and will take office on January 20, 2009 when he is sworn in along with Barack Obama, the president elect.

Joseph Biden Jr. was born on November 20, 1942, in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He has been the democratic U.S. senator from Delaware since 1973. Biden moved with his family to Delaware at age 10. In 1965, an undergraduate degree in history and political science prepared him well for a law career and he earned a law degree from Syracuse University in 1968.

In 1966, Biden married Neilia Hunter and had three children Joseph Biden III, Hunter and Naomi.

At the age of 29, he was elected to the Senate in 1972 and since then he has been elected as Senator in 1978, 1984, 1990, and 2002. His election to the Senate in 1972 was overshadowed by the tragic death of his wife and infant daughter in a car accident, while his two sons Joe and Robert were seriously injured.

In 1977, Biden remarried a school teacher named Jill Jacobs and he now has a daughter from his second marriage named Ashley. She was born in 1981.

Biden was an intelligent expert in international relations. He was often touted as a potential presidential candidate and he ran formally for the job in elections of 1988 and 2000. When Barack Obama won the Democratic nomination in 2008, he selected Biden as his running mate and defeated Republican Nominees John McCain and Sarah Palin in the election held on November 4, 2008.
