Biography On Nicole Ari Parker

Nicole Ari Parker, a published poet and American actress, was also a model for a brief period of time. She has been nominated for two NAACP Image Award for her role in the series Soul Food and Remember the Titans. Nicole Ari Parker Kodjoe was born Nicole Ari Parker on October 7, 1970 in Baltimore, Maryland.

She was born to Donald Parker, an African American dentist, and Susan Parker, a half African American and half Caucasian health care professional. As a child Nicole longed to become like the sexy Willona of the sitcom Good Times. She spent most of her time play-acting in her Baltimore home.

She won the best actress in Maryland’s high school competition at the young age of 17. In 1993, she graduated from college with an acting degree. She did many odd jobs, small roles and worked in the theater circuit. Her role in Soul Food was a big breakthrough that she had always been looking. This launched her acting career.

Fans remember Parker for her role as the tough but compassionate lawyer in the Showtime television series Soul Food. The series was based on the 1997 film of the same name. Several episodes of the series showcased her singing talent. But, she did not take singing quite seriously as a career. However, her guest appearance on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation once again showcased her as a singer. She did a small role in Exiled: A Law and Order Movie.

Nicole appeared in several critically acclaimed independent films including Boogie Nights, 200 Cigarettes, True Adventure of Two Girls in Love, and The Adventures of Sebastian Cole, the 1999 Sundance Film Festival winner.
