Serena and her elder sister, Venus Williams, were taught tennis by their father. Serena and Venus learnt some key aspects of tennis from their father while playing on public courts in Compton California. Later, Serena Williams and her sister moved to West Palm Beach to attend the elite tennis school operated by Coach Rick Macci.

Her singles title win at the US Open in 1999 was Serena’s first major achievement. Serena’s doubles career where she partnered her sister has also seen the same sort of success as her singles career. She partnered her sister to dominate the doubles title in the US Open and the French Open in 1999. In 2000 and 2002, the Williams sisters created waves by winning the Wimbledon doubles title.
