Biography Of Rachel Welch

She was the most admired sex kitten in the late 60s and 70s. Rachel Welch was Hollywood’s “Billboard Girl” who was known more for her steamy roles than her acting ability. Rachel Welch was born Jo Raquel Tajeda on September 5, 1940 in Chicago.

Daughter of a Bolivian father, Rachel took acting and ballet lessons at a very young age. As a teenager, she won most of the beauty contests she competed in including Miss Contour, and Miss Maid of California.

In 1962, Rachel Welch’s acting career kicked off after an appearance in Life Magazine where she wore a bikini. Her movie debut happened in 1964 but her role was quite short. She had her share of luck as she grabbed some more minor roles until she was signed by 20th Century Fox and was featured in the 1966 sci-fi film “Fantastic Voyage”. Her role in this movie earned her the “Sex Goddess” title in the 1960s.

She also appeared in the 1967 British comedy Bedazzled and the 1969 movie Priestess of the Whip in the Magic Christian. She tried to break the shackles of sex kitten image and starred in the 1970's Myra Breckenridge, which failed miserably at the box office.

Rachel Welch’s first recognition was the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a musical comedy. She won the award for her performance in the 1973’s The Three Musketeers.

Welch also dabbled with books and health and released her first health and fitness books in the mid-‘80s. She returned to Hollywood in 1994 to appear in Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult. She also appeared in number of television shows including Central Park West, Sabrina: The Teenage Witch and Spin City.
