Biography Of Paula Abdul

Paula Julie Abdul was born on June 19, 1962, in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles. She was born to Harry Abdul, a Syrian Jew, and a concert pianist Lorraine Rykiss. Her father was a former livestock trader and owner of sand and gravel business.

An avid dancer and music lover, Paula and her sister, Wendy, grew up in San Fernando Valley and attended Van Nuys High School. She was an honor student and the best cheerleader at school. She was also awarded a scholarship to a dance camp near Palm Springs when she was 15 years old. In 1978, she appeared a low-budget independent musical film, Junior High.

Her dancing skills attracted the attention of the Jacksons. She was hired straightaway for their victory tour as an assistant dance director. She choreographed one of Janet Jackson’s hit video and won an Emmy award for the Tracy Ullman Show. Her success story as a pop singer started with the hit album, “Forever Your Girl” with the hit single “Straight Up” and “Cold Hearted”. This followed by "Spellbound" in 1991 and “Head over Heels” in 1995, but had an average success. Overall, she sold more than 30 million records. She won a Grammy Award, has two number one albums and six number one singles.

Abdul had a spell of relationships during the early and late 90s. She married Emilio Estevez in April 1992 but divorced him in May, 1994. She later got engaged with sportswear designer Brad Beckerman in 1996. They parted ways in 1998.

She hid from limelight for nearly a decade. In 2002, she was chosen as a judge for the popular singing reality show, American Idol, which her popularity surging again. Paula Abdul still runs cheerleading camps and competitions across the country.
