Biography Enrique Iglesias

Enrique Iglesias or Enrique Miguel Iglesias Preysler was born on May 8, 1975 in Madrid, Spain.  A popular Spanish pop singer, songwriter, model and actor, Enrique is the son of the multi-million selling singer, Julio Iglesias. His mother, Isabel Preysler, was a Filipina socialite and journalist.  He lived with his mother, his brother Julio Jr. and his sister Chabeli.

In 1982, young Enrique was sent to Miami to live with his father where he was influenced to three different cultures of music -- American, European and Hispanic.

Enrique Iglesias started his music career while still attending Gulliver Private School in Miami. He began practicing singing and made his singing debut in a production of Hello, Dolly. In 1993, he graduated from Gulliver Private School and went on to study business in the University of Miami.

His real music career started in Mexico when he signed a contract with the Indie label, Fonovisa. His first album, Enrique Iglesias, was released in 1996 and sold more than a million copies in three months. This album earned him his first gold record in Portugal in a mere seven days. His second album, Vivir, was released in 1997. It enjoyed worldwide sales of more than five million discs and helped him launch his first ever world tour. In a just three years, Enrique sold more than 17-million Spanish-language albums which turned him into one of the most popular artists in Latin America and the United States.

In 1996, he won the Grammy for the Best Latin Performer. In the same year, he was awarded the Billboard Artist of the Year award and his album, Vivir, was named the Billboard Album of the Year.

He signed a unique multi-album deal with Universal Music for a whopping $48 million to release Spanish albums. He also signed a deal with Interscope for his first English album at the end of 2000. This followed Escape in 2001 and Seven in 2003.
