Many of the Olympian god relationships are confusing and the family tree of Aphrodite will help in studying the Greek mythology better. Here is some information about the Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite, her origin, life and children. She is also said to be the cause for the greatest tragedies of the Greeks, the Trojan War.

Aphrodite, the goddess of love for the Greeks was called Venus by the Romans. There are many versions about the birth of Aphrodite which is graphical and bloody. As per the version of the legend, Aphrodite's took birth when Cronus, who was one among the Titans, had removed his genitals of Ouranos, the god of sky for the Greeks. The genitals were thrown away into the sea and birth of Aphrodite happened. She was washed onto the shore on a scallop shell which is reason why sea shells are used to depict her.

Aphrodite was very beautiful which was feared by the other gods as it would invoke conflicts among the gods. The king of gods, Zeus made her marry Hephaestus the misshapen god of fire and volcanoes.
