The gods and the goddesses of the Greek mythology are called the Olympians these were the gods who were worshipped by the Greeks in the ancient Greek civilization. The Greek gods who had less power are called the primordial gods. After that comes the regional gods like, Titans, cyclops, Hecatonchires, the river gods, giants and nymphs. |
Zeus is called the king of gods. He ruled the sky and he lived on Mt. Olympus. He is treated as equivalent to the Jupiter, the roman god and Indra in Hindu mythology. Zeus is the child of rhea and Cronus. Zeus' wife was Hera, and he had 15 children who were all Olympians. Zeus is symbolized by the eagle, thunderbolt, oak and bull.
Hera is Zeus’s wife and goddess of marriage and child birth. She is also considered as the goddess of women. She is symbolized with the peacock, scepter and also diadem.
Zeus had a daughter called Aphrodite, the goddess, love and beauty, Hephaestus’s wife and mother of Eros and Harmonia. She is symbolized with dove, scepter and myrtle.
Apollo is considered as the learned deity in the Greek mythology. He was known as the god of medicine, music, fitness, truth, light and health. He was also referred to as the god of archery and bows. He is related to the sun and the light, and is also the most handsome god among all the Greek deities. He is Zeus’s son and has a twin sister Artemis. He is symbolized with lyre, laurel and bow.
Artemis is the twin sister of Apollo. She is related with the moon and is called the goddess of hunt, virginity, dew and wildlife. She is symbolized with bows, deer and dogs.
