How Many Children Did Hercules Have ?
As per Greek mythology, Hercules was a great hero who rid the world of its evil. He was the son of Alcmene and Zeus. Zeus was a very unfaithful husband to his wife and had several sons through various women. However, Hercules was special even though he was just one of them. He secured a place for himself among the gods. |
Since Hercules was the love child of Alcmene and Zeus, his wife Hera was very angry with him. She tried to kill Hercules at birth, but did not succeed. She sent two snakes to strangle the baby actually, but they were not successful and Hercules escaped unscathed. When Hercules grew up, he fell in love with Megara and they had 2 children together. Hercules led a happy married life with his wife and kids.
However, Hera had vowed to avenge Zeus through the death of Hercules. By the time Hercules grew up and was an adult, he was an extremely good looking, strong and brave man. Hera knew she could not harm even a strand of his hair. However, once she tricked Hercules into getting into a mad rage and during this episode he kills his entire family. Hercules killed his wife and two sons with his own hands. When he came back to his senses, it was too late and Hercules was heart broken. To repent, he worshipped Apollo, the Sun god. Apollo was a very wise god and could see the future. He came to Hercules and assigned him ten great tasks to accomplish and then promised him immortality and a place on Mount Olympus, the abode of the gods. Hercules completed all the ten tasks and became an immortal.
