Eros Greek God Family Tree

Eros is the god of love and sexual desire according to the Greek mythology. He is a small boy with wings and a bow and arrow according to the depictions. In some of the earlier depictions he is also shown as a beautiful full grown man. He is also shown riding the dolphin or the lion. He is a very beautiful and inspiring god. He is also known to be capricious and makes humans fall in love randomly.

Eros is the male offspring of Aphrodite, the goddess of love, and Ares, the god of war. However, some of the earlier mythological stories say he is one of the oldest gods. Eros fell in love with Psyche who was an extremely beautiful woman. Eros even had children with Psyche, like Volupta and Nyx.

The temple of Eros is in Mount Hellion. Some of the mythological legends say that there are two versions of Eros, one is the older version who seems to be the creator and the other is a younger version of sexual desire.

Eros was always by the side of his mother assisting her in everything she does including her evil thoughts. Aphrodite was very jealous of Psyche’s beauty and to seek revenge, she asked her son Eros to go shoot an arrow at her to fall in love with the worst looking and ugliest man on earth. However, when Eros went to shoot the arrow, he fell in love with Psyche himself. That angered Aphrodite, but she could not do anything about it as it was her beloved son.
