Ares Greek God Of War Mythology

Ares is known as the Olympian god of war and courage. Ares was not a preferred god according to Greek mythology and he was actually hated by several other gods. In the depictions Ares is pictured as a mature warrior who is in the arms of the battle. He has a beard and is nude holding a helm and a spear. He lacked clear attributes and also is quite difficult to identify in mythical art.

There have been several mythological stories about him. He had an affair with Aphrodite and she committed adultery with her husband Hephaestus. This affair was later known to her husband who cursed her. Adonis was also a rival in loving Aphrodite and Ares slayed him. He came in the disguise of a boar and killed Adonis. Adonis was also a very handsome man and Ares hated him and was highly insecure. Ares also transformed his wife Harmonia who was a peace lover into a snake and also Kadmos. He murdered Hallirhothios for raping his daughter and sought revenge. He was tried for several of his crime in Areiopagos.

He caused the battle of Heracles and Kyknos and then the god intervened with Ares to support his son. Ares lent his support to the warrior of gods Amazons. He also captured Allodia the giant inside a bronze jar. Ares caused the Trojan War and in the same battle he was wounded by Dioceses and he got help from Athena.
