Venus The Greek God Of Love
Venus is actually the Roman god of love, and in Greek mythological tales she is considered to be Aphrodite, the wife of Ares and the mother of Eros or Cupid. There are several similarities between the Roman goddess of olive, Venus and the Greek goddess Aphrodite. |
Aphrodite was worshipped in the islands of Cyprus and Kythera. She was associated with several other ancient cities like Atlantis, Hippolytus and Myrrha. She was in love with Adonis and Anchises who were mortals. However, Ares, her husband, was a very jealous god and slayed whoever she fell in love with. Venus or Aphrodite was considered as the goddess of chastity in women even though she herself had several affairs with men who were gods and mortals.
For the Romans, the goddess of Venus is the goddess of fertility. She made the gardens and the humans fertile. Venus was a very beautiful goddess and she brought love, hope and happiness to her believers. The Romans considered Venus as the ancestor of the roman civilization and she was the creator along with Anchises. She was worshipped as a mother by the Romans and also there were several variations of her. Like Venus, Felix was the bringer of good fortune, Victrix was the bringer of victory, and Verticordia was the protector of chastity in women.
Venus is also considered as Mother Nature, and is associated with the spring season. She gives joy to the gods and humans. She was one of the earliest gods to be created according to Greek and Roman mythologies.
