Greek God Of The Sea

Poseidon is a very popular Greek mythological god. He is usually depicted as a bearded man who holds sea shells and signifies sea life. He is the god of the sea. The symbols of Poseidon are the three pronged trident. He is also connected with horses and seen crashing against the waves of the shore. Poseidon also causes earthquakes and destruction.

There are some famous temples that were built for Poseidon and they are at Cape Sounion. It is located on a cliff that is overlooking the sea. Poseidon is a creative god and responsible for creating several sea creatures.

Poseidon was a war mongering god, and he is also very moody and unpredictable. He married amphitricha the goddess of the sea. His parents were Cronos, the god of time, and Rhea, the goddess of earth. His brothers are Zeus and Hades. Poseidon had several children some from his wife and many from his illicit relationships. He was the father of Triton, who was born to his wife. He also had children from Medusa, and fathered Pegasus. And, he also fathered Aron with his sister Demeter.

One of the stories about Poseidon was that Poseidon was in competition with Athena to create something for the people of Acropolis to win their love. Poseidon created horses and Athena gave olives. So the capital of Greece became Athens because they loved olives more. Poseidon is often compared with the Roman god Neptune. He is also credited for the creation of horses which were very useful.
