Greek God Family Tree
The Greeks believed that the family of gods started from two main gods and that were Uranus which was heaven and Gaea the earth. Here is a family tree of the Greek gods. |
Uranus and Gaea were the two main Greek gods. Uranus was the god of heaven, while Gaea was the Mother Earth. Together, Uranus and Gaea had many children. Cronus, Rhea, Coeus, Phoebe, and Oceanus were some of the children. Cronus overthrew his father and assumed the throne. He was married to Rhea and had many children from her. One of the children that Cronus and Rhea had was Zeus. He married his sister, Hera, and became the king of gods by overthrowing his father. Zeus' other siblings were Hades, Poseidon, Hestia. However, Zeus also had a roving eye and produced many other children with lesser gods, as well as mortals. Most of Zeus' children were gods, like Ares, Hermes, Apollo and Athena.
ssChaos is nothing but the void that separates the earth and the sky. The sky is the Uranus and the earth is Gaea. Chaos is responsible for creating the earth, and they had several children together. All gods and mortals were born out of Gaea and Chaos. Chaos was also considered as the god of the Underworld. Gaea, on the other hand, was the wife and mother of Uranus, the father of the heaven. They were the parents of some of the first gods like the Titans, Cyclopes and the giants. Uranus did not like the monsters and even though they were his own children, he locked them up in a special place on earth. The family tree of the Greek gods expanded this way and several more gods were born.
