Why Did The Revolutionary War Start ?

The Revolutionary War started because the Colonial Americans wanted their own country and they were tired of being governed by America and their unreasonable tax laws. Nobody wanted to pay taxes to the British government and everyone opposed it.

The people of America were very angry beyond a point and the colonists thought that the British were robbing them off their hard earnings by making them pay high and unreasonable taxes. They stopped paying the taxes completely. That is when armies from England started coming into America to see that people did not oppose the government and the taxes were paid.  The army started using brutality to make the common people pay taxes. Some people took very strong offence and started opposing the British government. People who went against the government were called the Patriots and they fought mainly to restore America’s freedom from the British government.

In 1775, the first formal attacks came from the colonists against the British in Lexington in Massachusetts. This was the first battle to be fought in the series of battles to come. American freedom movement lasted at least eight years until the British receded formally and announced their decision in Paris.

George Washington led the American army and he fought several battles and many of which were won against the British. What really irked the Americans was that they were made to pay taxes on their own produce like tea, and postage stamps. This unreasonable behavior by the British government was instrumental in sowing the seeds of independence and this ultimately led to the Revolutionary War.
