Warren G Harding was the 29th president of the United States. He was born on November 2, 1865 in a farm located in Morrow County, Ohio. His father, Dr George Tryon Harding, was a physician and Harding was the first of the 8 children that George Harding and Phoebe Dickerson Harding would have. Although Harding was the president for just two and half years, his administration had many accomplishments. Harding's agenda was to return to normalcy after the chaos and havoc of the First World War.
He ensured peace for the US by having taking steps to have normal relations with foreign enemy countries. He signed separate peace treaties with Germany, Austria and Hungary. In addition, he hosted the Washington Conference on Limitation of Armaments in 1921 and then again in 1923 where he got different countries to sign treaties to limit their military weapons. He also facilitated the joining of the US into the World Court.
On the domestic front, Harding was responsible for lowering taxes, reducing the national debt by a whopping $26 billion and he reduced government spending by establishing the Department of the Budget and balancing the budget. In addition, Harding also established the Bureau of Veterans Affairs with the aim of helping the brave soldiers who fought for their country during the war. Harding was responsible for creating Naval Petroleum Reserve Number 4 in Alaska which is today known as the National Petroleum Reserve.
It was under Harding that the position of the vice president became important in the working of the government. He was one of the few leaders that had the foresight and fortitude to guide the nation out of the rut it had got stuck into after World War I. He helped to reconstruct the country.
