- Ulysses S Grant was one of the three presidents who graduated from West Point Military Academy.
- He finished writing his memoirs a few weeks before succumbing to cancer. The memoirs were sold for $500,000 by the family after he died.
- Once when Ulysses Grant was driving his horse too fast, he was stopped and fined $20. He was the president at that time.
- His was christened Hiram Ulysses Grant but did not want to have the initials H.U.G. when entering West Point. So, he changed his name.

- Ten years after leaving the office of the president, Grant got cancer of the throat. He used to swab his throat everyday with cocaine that as a result he got addicted to it.
