How Did Thomas Jefferson Die ?

Thomas Jefferson was the third president of the United States from 1801 to 1809. He was also the main author of the Declaration of Independence, and one of the Founding Fathers of the nation. He was responsible for promoting republicanism in the country.

Jefferson was also a political philosopher. He thought that independent yeoman farmers were extremely good examples of republican virtues. He did not trust financiers and cities, and was all for a limited federal government so that states have more rights and say. He was also responsible for separating the state and church. Jefferson is considered to be co-founder of the Democratic-Republican Party, which dominated American politics for the next 25 years.

Besides being the president, Jefferson was the governor of Virginia during wartime from 1779 to 1781, he was the first Secretary of State from 1789 to 1793, and the second vice president from 1797 to 1801.

Along with being a great political leader, Jefferson was also a multi-talented person. He was a horticulturist, architect, archaeologist, paleontologist and inventor. He founded the University of Virginia.

Jefferson died on July 4, 1826, which was the fiftieth anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. He died a few hours before John Adams, who was his political rival but later both became very good friends. There is a rumor that just before Adams passed away, he asked about Jefferson not knowing that his friend had already died.

When Jefferson died, he was in debt. After his debt, his estate, Monticello, was auctioned off for $7,000 to James T. Barclay. Today, Thomas Jefferson is buried in Monticello, which is located in Charlottesville, Virginia. In his will, he left Monticello to the US so that it could be used as a school for orphans of naval officers.
