Richard Nixon was the 37th president of the United States. He was in office from 1969 until 1974. He is the only US president who had to resign from office. Here are some interesting facts about Richard Nixon.

Interesting Facts On Richard Nixon:

  • His full name is Richard Milhous Nixon, and he was born on January 9, 1913 in Yorba Linda, California.
  • Nixon joined the US Navy after Pearl Harbor was attacked and he rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
  • In 1946, Nixon was elected as the Republican candidate to the House Representatives where he represented the 12th Congressional District of California.
  • In 1950, he was elected to the Senate.
  • He was Dwight D. Eisenhower's running mate in the 1952 presidential election, and ended up becoming the youngest vice president in the history of the United States.
  • Nixon ordered the invasion of Cambodia in 1970 which did not go down very well with the American public. There was a lot of protest around the country.
  • He signed trade agreements with China and the Soviet Union. And, he was the first president to visit the two countries officially.
  • He signed the Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty with the Soviet Union in May 1972.
  • Nixon was responsible for signing the cease fire agreement with North Vietnam and was instrumental in bringing the last of the US troops from the country in 1973.
  • He was a prolific writer. During his career, he published 10 books.
  • Richard Nixon was nicknamed Tricky Dick when he was campaigning for the Senate elections in 1946.
  • Nixon made Elvis Presley a federal drug agent.
