What Did John Quincy Adams Do In The Erie Canal ?

John Quincy Adams was born on July 11, 1767 in Quincy, Massachusetts. He died on February 23, 1848 in Washington D.C. He was the first son of President John Adams. He was raised to attain the highest office by his parent’s right from childhood. Adams was considered as a great congressman and a great diplomat. But no one saw him as a great President.

The building of Erie Canal was the best possible decision that Adams made. In fact, it is considered to be one of the best decisions taken by a president until date. It played a big role in the prosperity of the nation. There was an influx of new businesses after the canal opened up. Several people started seeing newer possibilities of trade after the canal opened up.

During his presidency, the Erie Canal was completed. This helped to open up transportation options to the mid wets and it was also much cheaper. Several products were easily available and goods were transported much faster.

Adams also believed that America should prosper as one national entity. He also thought that different regions should prosper in different businesses. That is why in his very first year of administration, he started projects that involved building of roads and canals. He also organized a national level university and a national bank. In addition, he signed a tariff bill which helped the American manufacturers and increased the price of goods in the country. However, due to the tariff, Adams lost a lot of popularity, and this made sure he will not be re-elected as the president. The Tariff Law was called the Tariff of Abominations by the rivals.
