Was John Quincy Adams An Engineer Before He Became President
John Adams Jr. was the oldest of all the three children, and was born on October 30, 1735. He was born in Quincy, Massachusetts, to John Adams Sr. and Susanne Boylston. The place he was born has been converted into a national park and a conservation area. |
His forefathers were of Welsh origin. However, the Adams' family had been living in the United States of America for several generations. Adams, when young, went to Harvard Law and Business School. He was only 16 years old at that time, and that was the first college attended by him.
His father thought he would become a minister, but he taught law for several years. He then strongly decided to become a lawyer, and worked in the office of James Putnam in Worcester. He was also admitted into the Bar.
He was introduced early to the life of strife of independence of America. He was the one to lead the movement of independence. He served in France and Holland as a diplomat, and also negotiated a peace treaty. From the years 1785 to 1788, he was serving as the minister in the court of St. James before he became the Vice President of George Washington. Adams served in two terms as the vice president under Washington. However, as a vice president, he found it extremely frustrating due to his high intellect. He often complained about it to his wife Abigail about this fact.
So, John Quincy Adams was not an engineer before he became the president. Rather he was a lawyer.
