When Was John Adams First Election ?

The First Presidential election was held in 1789 in the United States. George Washington was elected as the first President directly for the first two terms. John Adams was the first Vice President of the United States.

The Presidential Campaign was held in 1796 and John Adams was the candidate form the Federalist Party. There was Thomas Pinckney, who was the governor of South Carolina who was also from the Federalist Party. During that election, the choice of Vice president was not given to the President and instead who ever came second was elected the Vice President by default.

The federalists mainly wanted John Adams to beat Thomas Jefferson and his bids. Hamilton was also an apt candidate in those elections. Hamilton and his followers supported John Adams. In spite of that, they still held a grudge against him. John Adams was not very popular, and he lacked the seriousness that Washington had to be successful. Many people in the party feared that Adams was vain, and unpredictable. He was extremely opinionated and also adamant. It is reported that he never used to listen to the party members or follow their directions.

People, who opposed Adams, supported Thomas Jefferson from Virginia. He had a running mate and that was Senator Aaron Burr from New York. However, in those elections John Adams did not campaign very actively, and instead stayed in his home town Quincy. He called elections a silly and a wicked game. His party members campaigned hard for him, while the democratic republicans campaigned for Jefferson.
