James Earl Carter, better known as Jimmy Carter, was the thirty-ninth President of the United States. He was born on October 1, 1924 to James Carter Sr. and Bessie Lillian Gordy Carter. He had two sisters and one brother. He was married to Eleanor Rosalyn Smith and had three sons and one daughter with her. His daughter, Amy, was born at the White House. His father was a public official. |
President Carter won the Nobel Peace Prize in the year 2002. He grew up in Archery, Georgia. He went to the public school in Georgia. Soon after high school, he went to the prestigious Georgia Tec University. He later got accepted into the United States Naval Academy, and graduated from there in 1946.
Carter’s great grandfathers originated from Southern England. He was born in a hospital and was the oldest of all the siblings. Carter was born in a well to do family, and his father was well known in the business community. His mother was a registered nurse.
From his early days, Carter was very good at studies. He was very fond of reading books and was very good at basketball for which he played for his school team. He was deeply influenced by his school teacher Julia Coleman. He also participated in programs like future farmers of America in school. As a child he was very responsible, and never had to be corrected. He believed in always doing the right things whereas, his brother Billy, on the other hand, was naughty and known for getting into trouble.
