How Would You Describe James Madison ?

James Madison, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States, was born in Port Conway, Virginia on March 16, 1751.  He was the oldest of seven children. He had a slight build and weighed only about a hundred pounds. He was the shortest president of the United States at 5 feet 4 inches.

He was a shy person yet one of the most outspoken members of the Continental Congress. He stood up for what he believed to be right. His vision was a powerful federal government that had the power to overrule states if they were in the wrong.  In his later years, he became a fan of the US Supreme Court as it started executing that role.

He was a brilliant political philosopher and politician. His thoughts were deep and well structured. He is credited with writing most of the constitution. No wonder he is called the Father of the Constitution. He even lent a hand in drafting the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom. He also hand a hand in framing the Bill of Rights.

He also believed in religious freedom, which is another example of his sense of fairness.

He believed in fair play and held on to the belief that the government needed checks and balances. This would protect the minority from the domination of the majority. His fairness also led to his proposing the compromise of the 3/5 ratio.

His outgoing wife Dolley was a perfect complement for his shyness.

Till his dying day, he had the good of the nation on his mind.

Did-James-Madison-Write-The-3-5-Compromise      The 3/5 compromise was suggested by James Wilson and Roger Sherman in 1787 during the Philadelphia Convention.
