What Did James K Polk Do In His Spare Time ?

The 11th President of the United States, James Knox Polk retired after just one term as president. That could be because he fulfilled whatever he set out to do. That could be because he was a workaholic. So, it stands to reason that he did not have much spare time.

His only recreation must have been horse riding as he had one as a pet. It is reported that he made his own leather riding saddle.

He did not have any hobbies and interests other than politics. His spare time would have been taken up with running for campaigns. His political career started as early as 1822.  He then devoted his entire time to it. From 1823 to 1825, he served as a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives. Then from 1825-39, he was a member as well as the speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. Then from 1839 to 1841, he worked hard as the Governor off Tennessee.

After becoming president he gave his full attention to all the promises and missions he had set out to do. As mentioned earlier, he succeeded. He took his presidential term seriously. He and his wife Sarah did not allow dancing or music in the White House during his term.

He also informed everyone that he would not run for a second term. Perhaps after that he might have devoted his time to leisure and hobbies. But one could not tell for sure, and as he died of cholera three months after leaving office.
