Herbert Hoover Adulthood
Herbert Hoover was born in Iowa and was raised as a Quaker. He stayed in Oregon since he was 10, but is father passed away when he was 6. After three years, it was his mother who died, and his other siblings were given to their other relatives. |
As a young person, he went to a local school and never got the chance to graduate from high school. In college though, he graduated with a degree in geology at Stanford University. After studying, he married his college sweetheart, and they went to China where he worked as one of the leading engineers.
Before he became the 31st president of the United States, he was a mining engineer from 1896-1914. He became the head of the American Relief Committee to render assistance to the stranded Americans in Europe. At that time, he was also the head of the Commission for the Relief of Belgium which supplied huge bulks of food to Europe along with the American Relief Administration. For a year, from 1917-1918, he gave his service as the US Food Administrator and was also very active in all effort to achieve peace during war. Eventually, from 1921-1928, he became the Secretary of Commerce for US Presidents Coolidge and Harding.
Through the years, Hoover was able to write a lot of books and articles. In fact, he was even working on one when he passed away at the age of 90 on October 20, 1964. Hoover always believed that people must not go through cold and hunger and hence, to care for these people should be everyone’s responsibility.
