Exciting Facts About George Washington

George Washington was the first President of the United States of America and took office in the year 1789 and held office till 1797. Apart from the well known facts about George Washington, there are some little known facts that are exciting as well.

George Washington gave high importance to clothing and designed his soldiers’ uniforms all by himself in the 1750s. This interest in clothing was evident from his teen days, and the 150-word instructions to his tailor for altering his coat is a testimony to this.

A tall man, George Washington was also known for his strength. On some occasions he hunted on a horseback for even seven hours at a stretch. And there was his famous 70 yard throw, the shot that was roughly equivalent to a quarterback.

George Washington was an intelligent man, composed and kept his cool even during tense situations. History has it that during an argument with a Virginia land owner and politician, Washington did not retaliate despite being hit down by this less powerful man with a stick. He left the room immediately and apologized to the man despite the fact that the man was at mistake on that instance.

George Washington was the only President to have been inaugurated in two cities: New York and Philadelphia. Apart from this, George Washington was the only President who never lived in the White House. He was involved in the planning of the Capitol Hill.

George Washington was accurate with his accounts. He maintained his own ledgers recording every penny spent and earned. When Washington became the President in 1789, there were only 13 stars on the American flag. Five states were added during his presidency and these were North Carolina, Rhode Island, Vermont, Kentucky, and Tennessee.
