Born on February 4, 1947, Dan Quayle was not so wealthy when he was running for Vice President in 1988 despite the fact that his family was wealthy. Quayle graduated from Huntington High School in Indiana in 1965, and in 1969, from the DePauw University he got his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.
From 1969 to 1975 Dan Quayle served as a sergeant in the Indiana National Army Guard and while doing this in 1974 he earned the Juris Doctor degree from the Indiana University School of Law. Thereafter, he married Marilyn. In 1974, he got admitted to the Indiana Bar Council and began practice in Huntington. He was also the associate publisher of the Huntington Herald Press.
Dan Quayle began his political career as an elected Republican in 1976. He was reelected and served till 1981. In 1980, he became the youngest person ever to be elected to the Senate from his state of Indiana. And, in 1986, he got reelected to the Senate at a time when many other Republican Senators failed to get reelected. He held the Senate office till 1989 and resigned thereafter to become the Vice President of the U.S. He also served as the Chairman of the Select Committee to study the Committee System during the 98th Congress.
Dan Quayle’s most famous blunder was criticized in the media when he wrongly corrected a student’s spelling of potato to potatoe at an elementary school in New Jersey.
