Bill Clinton And Monica Scandal
Bill Clinton was the 42nd President of the United States of America, belonging to the Democratic Party. While he was well loved by the public, his term also saw a lot of trouble what with the Whitewater scandal, Filegate and Travelgate scandal. But the most publicized scandal was the Monica Lewinsky Scandal, also referred to as “Monicagate", "Lewinskygate", and "Sexgate". |
But what was the scandal all about?
The Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky Scandal was a political sex scandal that came to light in the media during 1997-1998. The sexual relationship between the then President in 1995 and Monica Lewinsky, an intern in the White House, eventually led to the impeachment of President Clinton; but subsequently being acquitted on all the charges.
President Clinton was being investigated on the Whitewater Scandal by Kenneth Starr when their relationship came under the scanner. But Monica’s associate Linda Tripp, who knew about the affair, had secretly recorded telephonic conversations and also convinced Monica to keep gifts from Clinton. Tripp then handed the tapes to the Independent Counsel – Starr in January 1998.
Both Clinton and Lewinsky denied the charges when the Scandal broke in June 1998. But some months later, in July Monica accepted in the wake of perjury charges while handing over the Semen-stained blue dress. Now, armed with possible DNA-evidence, Bill Clinton was held in Contempt of Court for perjury, his law license suspended along with a fine of $90,000 for false testimony.
The House of Representatives voted to issue Articles of Impeachment against him for falsely testifying in Court and allegedly influencing Lewinsky's testimony. This was followed by a 21-day trial in the Senate where President Clinton was acquitted of all charges to remain in office.
