Barack Hussein Obama was born on August 4, 1961 to Stanley Ann Durham and Barack Obama Sr. His father, Barack Obama Sr., was born in Kenya, and was a Muslim by faith. Stanley Ann Durham was a conservative Christian born to white Americans. Barack Obama Sr. was born in the Luo tribe of Kenya in a Nyanza Province. His father became an atheist at a much later point in life in spite of being a Muslim. Barack’s father was one of the first in his family to have such high educational qualifications, and also one of the first people in the entire village to have stepped out of Kenya.
He won a scholarship from the east-West Center of Hawaii which made it possible for him to enroll in the University of Hawaii. He met Ann Durham, Obama’s mother when both of them were students in the University.
Stanley Ann Durham grew up in Wichita, Kansas. Her father was an employee in the oil rigs, and had served the World War after the Pearl Harbor attack. Her mother also worked in the bomber assembly line during the World War II. After the war, her parents bought a house through the federal housing scheme for war veterans, and moved to Hawaii. It was the same year that Barack Obama Sr. arrived in Hawaii.
Both Obama Sr. and Anne enrolled in the University of Hawaii for further studies. She met Obama’s father in a Russian Language class. After two years of dating Ann married Obama Sr., and Obama Jr. was born in the same year.
