What Year Was Andrew Jackson Born ?
Andrew Jackson, the seventh President of the United States, was born in Waxhaws in a log cabin, on the border of North and South Carolina. He was born to parents, who were Presbyterian Christians of Scottish and Irish origins. He was born on March 15, 1767 to Andrew and Elizabeth Hutchinson Jackson. His parents had migrated from Carrickfergus of Northern Ireland. |
Andrew Jackson has had a rather unfortunate childhood, and even his place of birth has been a controversial subject among historians. Within a couple of weeks of Andrews’s birth, his father died in a logging accident. He was the youngest of the three boys of his parents. Jackson did not receive continuous education through his childhood. During the American Revolution, he was only thirteen years old and had to join the regimen.
Andrew and his brother Robert were taken as prisoners by the British. During his term in the prison, he had refused to clean a British officer’s boots for which he was punished by being cut across on his hand by a sword. After that incident, he harbored a strong resentment towards the British. During their imprisonment, both the brothers came down with smallpox. During that time, their mother arranged for their release and soon after the release, his brother Robert died.
By the time Jackson was fourteen, he lost mother to cholera. His oldest brother died much earlier in the battle of Stono Ferry. He was orphaned and homeless at a young age, and blamed the British all his life for his misfortunes and family’s untimely death.
