What Year Did Abraham Lincoln Die ?

Abraham Lincoln was the sixteenth president to have governed the United States of America. He was excellent orator, and was a gifted public speaker. Some of his quotes and speeches are very famous, and are quoted even today by world leaders. He is considered the wisest and the most intelligent President of the United States.

He became the President of the United States in March 1861. The Civil War broke out one month later, on April 12, the same year. Lincoln had an extremely difficult task on his hands to keep the two parties together during the chaotic times. He did it successfully with a lot of tact. He separated war decisions from all general party decisions. Though several people were dissatisfied with his policies and decisions during the war, Lincoln knew he was doing the right thing based on the circumstances.

Lincoln died on a Good Friday in the year 1865. He was shot by John Wilkes Booth outside the Fords Theatre. Lincoln was attending a play in Ford's Theater of Washington DC along with his wife. Lincoln could not serve a complete term as a president as he was assassinated.

He only served four years, and yet remains as one of the most remembered presidents in the United States and worldwide. His assassin, Booth, thought that Lincoln and his party were responsible for the unrest in the South. The original plot was to overthrow the party and set up a new one. The vice president and the secretary of the state were also targeted and were in the list of people to be assassinated. However, Booth only succeeded in killing Lincoln and not the other two. He also failed to overthrow the government.
