Who Was Vice President Under George Bush Senior ?
The vice president under George Bush was James Danforth Quayle, better known as Dan Quayle. He was the 44th vice president of the United States and served under George H. W. Bush from 1989 to 1993. Prior to becoming the vice president, Quayle was also a US Representative and US Senator from Indiana. |
Dan Quayle was born on February 4, 1947 to James Cline Quayle and Martha Corinne Pulliam. His maternal grandfather was Eugene C. Pulliam, a wealthy and successful publishing magnate who founded Central Newspaper, Inc. Eugene Pulliam was also the owner of some major newspapers like The Arizona Republic and The Indianapolis Star.
Quayle's father moved to Arizona in 1955 to branch out the family's publishing business. Although the Quayle family is quite wealthy, the same could not be said about Dan Quayle, who networth at the time of his election was supposed to be less than one million dollars.
Dan Quayle grew up in Arizona and he graduated in 1965 from Huntington High School. He then went on to DePauw University where he earned a degree in 1969 in political science. After that, Quayle joined the Indiana Army National Guard and he served for 7 years from 1969 to 1975. While he was with the National Guard, he earned his degree in Jurisprudence from the Indiana University School of Law. It was here that he met his future wife, Marilyn.
During the Republican Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana, George H. W. Bush named Quayle as his running mate for the 1988 presidential election. However, this did not go well with the media as they felt he did not have sufficient experience to become the president.
Just before the Convention, the Republicans were trailing in the public polls, but after that they suddenly started doing well and ended up winning the elections.
